Content Permissions

Content access and edit permissions can be created, modified and deleted via the Content Perms option on the dashboard.

Access and edit permissions are inherited from all parent documents.

Note: Any document moved under the restricted document will inherit the restriction, while moving a document from under a restricted document to a non-restricted location will leave the document unprotected unless the permission is set explicitly on it.

Creating an Access Permission

  • New Short Name is a short name which can be used by snippets and modules for testing if the user has this permission.
  • New Description is a human readable description of the permission, this description is shown when editing roles and choosing which permissions to assign to the role.
  • The New Access Permission box must be checked to create access permissions.

Once Add Permission is clicked the new permission is created and placed into edit mode.

Limiting Access to View Documents

Once an access permission has been created it can be used to limit the access to documents within the website.

To limit access to a document and all of its child documents to only those users with a specific permission edit the document and select the permission from the View Permission drop down, once the document is saved only users who belong to a role with the matching permission will be able to view the document.

Any child documents will inherit the same view restriction without the permission having to be explicitly set on each document.

Creating an Edit Permission

  • New Short Name is a short name which can be used by snippets and modules for testing if the user has this permission.
  • New Description is a human readable description of the permission, this description is shown when editing roles and choosing which permissions to assign to the role.
  • The New Access Permission box must be unchecked to create edit permissions.

Once Add Permission is clicked the new permission is created and placed into edit mode.

Limiting Editing of Documents

Once an editing permission has been created it can be used to limit the access to editing documents within the manager.

To limit the ability to edit a document and all of its child documents to only those users with a specific permission edit the document and select the permission from the Edit Permission drop down, once the document is saved only users who belong to a role with the matching permission will be able to edit the document.

Any child documents will inherit the same view restriction without the permission having to be explicitly set on each document.
